George Washington

George Washington died on December 14, 1799 at the age of 67 at his beloved Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.

The day before he died, he wrote the following in his diary – the last words he would write before passing away close to midnight on the 14th:

“Morning snowing, and about three inches deep.  Wind at northeast, and mercury at 30.  Continued snowing till one o-clock, and about four it became perfectly clear.  Wind in the same place, but not hard.  Mercury 28 at night.”

His last spoken words were “It is well.”
